Good Things Come to Those Who Wait for Suzuki

Japanese manufacturer offers 0-percent financing on V-Strom models through summer

Hey look! Suzuki is doing that thing that we said might be a bad idea, offering 0-percent finance on its V-Strom 650 and 1000 models.

Certainly we here at TMO appreciate a deal, but as we highlighted in an article a few months ago, Suzuki GB has gotten itself trapped in a cycle of being forced to offer all kinds of deal sweeteners to get people to buy its bikes because the UK market has effectively been trained to wait for price drops and low-finance offers. But I guess some bad habits can be pretty hard to break.

And, to be fair, there are certainly worse ways to spend your money. I used to own a V-Strom 1000 and it was solid machine. It wasn’t the prettiest, wasn’t the fastest, didn’t have the highest spec, but it always ran, it always got me where I wanted and needed to go.

The 1000 models are equipped with traction control and lean-sensitive ABS and claim 100 hp. Actual power is somewhat less, but there was enough that I was able to lift the front with hard acceleration (with traction control turned off). All new Suzukis come with a three-year warranty as standard.

Suzuki’s 0-percent finance offer runs from 1 July to 30 September when you sign up for a hire purchase deal – which means no final balloon payment or mileage cap. With a deposit or trade-in of £2,110, your monthly payments would work out to £159. For a 650, a £1,542 deposit/trade-in will net you a monthly payment of £125. Suzuki stresses, though, that it’s eager to work with customers and says it can deliver a reasonable monthly payment with a deposit as low as £300.

“We’ve made it even easier for customers to enjoy the V-Strom range,” said Suzuki GB Head of Motorcycles Jonathan Martin. “There’s nothing extra to pay, no balloon payment, just regular monthly repayments until the end of the agreement… and with the weather we’re having, now’s a perfect time to plan a summer trip.”
