Ducati reportedly updating its wonderful Multistrada 950

MCN are reporting Tuesday that Ducati is in the final stages of updating the Multistrada 950, a bike I raved about earlier this year – invoking the spirit of Mary Poppins and calling it “practically perfect in every way.”

Comfortable, quick and a hell of a lot easier to move around the garage than my Triumph Tiger Explorer, I spent a lot of time entertaining the idea of heading down to my local Ducati dealership and putting down my own money for one. The primary reason I didn’t do that is the fact that not enough of my own money exists for such a thing. The Multistrada 950 has a starting price of £11,395.

Expect to see that go even higher when the new Multistrada 950 is revealed. Along with being Euro 5 compliant, the road-focused adventure machine is expected to come equipped with more electronic gubbins. MCN is banking on cornering ABS and cornering traction control. A TFT screen seems a pretty good bet, as well. But personally, the thing I’m most hoping to see is cruise control. The absence of that feature was my chief criticism bike when I spent a few weeks with the 950 earlier this year.

I had no problem with the existing 113 horsepower being put out by the bike’s 937cc L-twin engine, but I wouldn’t complain if MCN’s predictions of a boost to 120 hp turned out to be true. Meanwhile, I don’t give a damn that there don’t appear to be any plans to offer an Enduro version of the 950; what’s wrong with simply having an awesome country-crossing road bike?

As I say, add cruise control and I’m in.

The spy shots I’ve seen of the new Multistrada 950 present a pretty finished bike, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the thing revealed sooner than later. If only there were some sort of worldwide event taking place in Italy next week that could serve as a stage for the new 950’s reveal…

I loved riding the 2018 Multistrada 950 earlier this year.
